“The mind knows the answer, but the heart does not want to ask. We know the drink is poison, yet we still take a drink. The strength inside us pushes back, saying no, do not harm. The weakness inside says we deserve suffering, we are not good enough. We were falsely taught early in life that if we felt pain, we experienced life. Suffering was tolerated until it became familiar, like walking in a pair of well-worn shoes with a stone in them, each step was painful, but for some reason we felt compelled to keep walking, even when it hurt. We walked long enough and our suffering began to actually feel normal.
The word guru means remover of darkness. Learn to listen to your inner voice, the guru within you. Trust this light of intuition to examine our situations carefully. Stop walking with a stone in your shoe, stop accepting suffering as a normal part of life. Non-attachment is the path towards liberation from suffering, but the heart struggles to let go. Attachment is all the heart has ever known. The Buddha taught that learning to unlearn is the highest form of learning. Retrain the heart and teach it freedom; suffering need not be tolerated any more. Life should not something to be tolerated in fear and pain, life should be lived as a miraculous, adventurous journey, filled with light, love and laughter.
” – David Scott

“Yoga teaches us never to become a victim, but instead to use our experiences as a tool to gain valuable wisdom, which once aquired can never be taken from us. When we take on the role of the victim, we become a beggar. We crave sympathy, pity and acceptance from others, instead of finding our fulfillment within ourselves. When you walk on crutches long enough, the legs become weak and unusable. No one has the power to make you happy or unhappy except yourself. Walk on, even if it sometimes hurts.” – David Scott
