WEEK 10.3 (MARCH 5-11TH) – ALMOST OUR REALITY
“We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we want to see them, based on our experiences that shaped our perspective.” – David Scott
“People see what they want to see and what people want to see isn’t always the truth.” Roberto Bolano
“All our knowledge has its origins in our perceptions.” Leonardo da Vinci
“We fear most in life, not what we can see in the light of day, but what is unseen, hidden from view, lurking in the dark shadows of our existence” – David Scott
“The reality of life is that your perceptions – right or wrong – influence everything else you do. When you get a proper perspective of your perceptions, you may be surprised how many other things fall into place.” Roger Birkman
Our senses are our window for our soul to experience the world. The human body has limitations and we can only hear and see 1% percent of what is out there. 99% is missed by our human senses. It is our biology and not the physical properties of the light or sound itself — that limit what we can sense.
· Humans are incapable of hearing “infrasonic” (low frequency) sounds that other animals, such as elephants can hear.
· Dogs can hear at a distance four times farther than humans and certain breeds have a sense of smell 10 million times stronger than humans.
· Humans have three types of conical receptors in the eye that can see three primary colors- red, blue, and green, an about a million variations of combinations.
· The Buddha said, “If we could see a flower see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole world would change.” Bees and other animals can detect ultraviolet colors, such as on flowers that humans cannot even see. Mosquitoes, snakes and fish can see in the infrared range, that again we can only see with electronics.
Hearing
Healthy humans can only hear a range of 20 to 20,000 hz. Elephants are said to be able to communicate with each other through the ground and predict natural disasters by their perception of infrasonic sounds. Often called low frequency sound. With a frequency of less than 20 Hz (the lower limit of human hearing). Dogs can hear something at a distance four times farther than humans.
Smell
There are certain dog breeds that have a sense of smell that is ten million times stronger than that of humans
Sight
Humans have three types of conical receptors in the eye that can see three primary colors- red, blue, and green, an about a million variations of combinations. The human will respond to wavelengths from about 380 (violet) to 740 (red) nanometers.
When all our visual spectrum of light comes together we see white. Isaac Newton demonstrated a prism can break up this light into what we “perceive” to be the rainbow.
10 percent of the suns light is ultraviolet. We cannot even see it! Bees and many other insects can detect ultraviolet light, which helps them find nectar in flowers. Birds, too, can see into the ultraviolet (300–400 nm), and some have sex-dependent markings on their plumage that are visible only in the ultraviolet range.
Mosquitoes, snakes and fish can see in the infrared range.
A Mantis shrimp can see 16 colors!
Taste
We have around 10,000 taste buds a cow has 25,000.
Touch
Animals can detect even magnetic and electrical fields.
Our perception of our world becomes our reality, but it is a world limited by our limited perception. What I see, from where I am on the planet to be a sunset, is to another, on the other side of the world a sunrise. In the same way we don’t know what we just do not know. How much out there is still left to be discovered and explored?
“The quality of our breath expresses our inner feelings.” – T.K.V. Desikachar
“I stopped explaining myself when I realized other people only understand from their level of perception.” Anonymous
“We must not allow other people’s perceptions to define us.” Virginia Satir
“Just because you are right, does not mean, I am wrong. You just haven’t seen life from my side.” Anonymous
“Reality is ultimately a selective act of perception and interpretation. A shift in our perception and interpretation enables us to break old habits and awaken new possibilities for balance, healing, and transformation.” David Simon
“If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite.” William Blake
“If you look at the same problem, from a different perspective, you will discover different solutions.”
Leonardo da Vinci always assumed that his first way of looking at a problem was too biased toward his usual way of thinking. He would always look at a problem from at least three different perspectives to get a better understanding.
“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” – Wayne Dyer
“No one is ugly, our perception is.” Anonymous
“It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.” Henry David Thoreau
“The reality of life is that your perceptions – right or wrong – influence everything else you do. When you get a proper perspective of your perceptions, you may be surprised how many other things fall into place.” Roger Birkman
“Change your perception of things and you will change your reality.” Anonymous
“Your perception creates your reality. You can look at life and see scarcity or abundance. It depends on your mindset.” Joe Vitale
“We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.” Anais Nin
“Where there is anger, there is always pain underneath.” ~Eckhart Tolle
“People are lonely because they build walls instead of bridges.”
“Pain is such a useful thing. It corrects us when we’re wrong. It shapes our character. It teaches us that we’re alive.” – C.J. Redwine, Deception
“A scar is proof that healing has occurred. Scars are like tattoos, but with better stories.”
“The wound is the place light enters you.” Rumi
“The soul always knows what to do to heal itself. The challenge is to silence the mind.” – Caroline Myss
“Worrying does not take away tomorrows troubles, but does take away today’s peace.”
“Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.” -Helen Keller
I am strong because i have been weak. I am fearless because i have been afraid. I am wise because i have been foolish
“The more often we see the things around us – even the beautiful and wonderful things – the more they become invisible to us. That is why we often take for granted the beauty of this world: the flowers, the trees, the birds, the clouds – even those we love. Because we see things so often, we see them less and less.”― Joseph B. Wirthlin
