WEEK 17.1 (APRIL 26-MAY 2) -I release the past…I trust this moment…
Welcome everyone.
Tonight’s practice is about something very simple… but very powerful.
Learning to let go of what has already happened…
and loosening our grip on what hasn’t happened yet.
Because so often…
we’re not stressed by what’s happening right now…
we’re stressed by what we’re thinking about.
The past…
the future…
and the expectations we carry.
So tonight, we practice coming back.
Back to the breath…
back to the body…
back to this moment.
Let’s begin with our mantra:
I release the past…
I trust this moment…
TOPIC 1 – Letting Go of the Past and Future
Short Talk
If we want peace…
we have to loosen our grip on two things:
The past…
and the future.
The past lives in memory…
the future lives in imagination…
But peace only lives here.
I’ve noticed in my own life…
Sometimes nothing is wrong…
but my mind is somewhere else.
Replaying something that already happened…
or worrying about something that hasn’t.
And in that moment…
I miss the only thing that’s real.
Call to Action
Gently bring yourself back…
to what’s actually happening right now.
Metaphor – Watching a Movie Twice
Imagine sitting down to watch a movie…
but instead of watching what’s on the screen…
you keep replaying earlier scenes…
or skipping ahead to see the ending.
You’d miss the whole experience.
That’s what we do with life.
Quotes
“Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.” – Buddha
“The present moment is the only moment available to us.” – Thich Nhat Hanh
“Peace is found in the now.”
“Be where your feet are.”
“The mind creates time, awareness dissolves it.”
TOPIC 2 – When Life Is Good, Let It Be Good
Short Talk
Even when life is going well…
how often do we catch ourselves thinking…
“This won’t last…”
or “What’s going to go wrong next?”
It’s almost like we don’t trust happiness.
We brace for impact…
instead of enjoying the moment.
I’ve done this myself…
Everything is good…
and instead of feeling grateful…
I’m scanning for problems.
But here’s the truth…
When life is good…
we should allow ourselves to enjoy it.
And when life is not so good…
we practice patience.
Because just like the good moments don’t last forever…
neither do the difficult ones.
Everything moves.
Everything changes.
So instead of bracing…
we begin to trust the rhythm of life.
Call to Action
When things are good… let them be good.
And when they’re not… remind yourself… this will pass.
Metaphor – The Passing Weather
Some days the sky is clear…
Some days it’s stormy…
But it never stays the same.
The mistake is thinking the storm will last forever…
or questioning the sunshine when it’s here.
Quotes
“This too shall pass.”
“Enjoy the sunshine without fearing the rain.”
“Impermanence is not a threat, it is a promise.”
“Good times don’t last forever, and neither do hard times.”
“Relax into the changing nature of life.”
TOPIC 3 – Expecting the Unavailable to Show Up
Short Talk
One of the biggest sources of disappointment…
is expecting people to give us something…
they simply don’t have.
Love…
understanding…
emotional presence…
And sometimes…
it’s not that they don’t want to give it…
they just don’t know how.
Because they haven’t learned how to give it to themselves.
We ask for patience…
from someone who lives in frustration.
We ask for reassurance…
from someone who is full of doubt.
We ask for love…
from someone who doesn’t even love themselves yet.
I’ve had to learn this one the hard way.
And it doesn’t make them bad…
it just makes them where they are.
Peace begins when we stop trying to change people…
and start seeing them clearly.
Sometimes the lesson isn’t that they will change…
it’s that we need to see clearly.
Call to Action
Notice where you may be asking for something…
that someone isn’t able to give…
and begin to meet that need within yourself.
Metaphor – Borrowing from an Empty Cup
Imagine going to someone with an empty cup…
asking them to pour into yours.
You wait…
you hope…
you encourage them…
But if their cup is empty too…
there’s nothing to give.
It’s not rejection…
it’s limitation.
And the wisdom…
is learning where to stop asking…
and start filling your own cup.
Quotes
“You cannot give what you do not have.”
“When someone shows you who they are, believe them.” – Maya Angelou
“Acceptance is the foundation of peace.”
“Stop asking others to be who they are not ready to be.”
“See clearly, suffer less.”
TOPIC 4 – Stop Negotiating with Reality
Short Talk
A lot of our stress comes from arguing with what is.
“This shouldn’t be happening…”
“They should be different…”
“Life should be easier…”
But reality doesn’t negotiate.
The more we resist it…
the more we suffer.
Call to Action
Instead of resisting what is…
acknowledge it…
and choose your response.
Metaphor – Sitting in Traffic
You’re stuck in traffic.
You can get frustrated…
tighten your grip… complain…
But none of that moves the cars.
Or you can accept it…
breathe…
and conserve your energy.
Same situation… different experience.
Quotes
“Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.”
“What you resist, persists.” – Carl Jung
“Acceptance doesn’t mean approval, it means clarity.”
“Flow with what is.”
“Let reality be your teacher.”
TOPIC 5 – Choosing Peace Right Now
Short Talk
Peace is not something we find later.
It’s something we choose now.
Not when life is perfect…
not when everything is resolved…
but right here…
in this breath…
in this moment.
You can choose to soften.
Call to Action
Right now… take one breath… and choose peace.
Metaphor – Putting Down the Weight
Imagine holding a weight in your hand.
At first it’s manageable…
but the longer you hold it…
the heavier it feels.
Peace isn’t about making the weight disappear.
It’s about realizing…
you can put it down.
Quotes
“You carry what you choose to hold.”
“Peace begins with a single breath.”
“Let go, and you are free.”
“Stillness is strength.”
“You are allowed to feel okay.”
SAVASANA CLOSING (Short and Powerful)
As you rest here…
notice there is nothing to fix…
nothing to figure out…
nowhere else to be.
The past is not here.
The future is not here.
And in this moment…
you are okay.
Life will move…
people will be who they are…
circumstances will change…
But you don’t have to chase it…
and you don’t have to fight it.
You can simply be here.
Breathing.
Aware.
At peace.
Let’s return to our mantra:
I release the past…
I trust this moment…
